Interacting with Planets

How to select planets, read information panels, and warp to any world in the Solar System using click and double-click interactions.

Every planet, dwarf planet, and major moon in We Are Small has a floating label that you can interact with. These labels are your gateway to learning about each world.

Selecting a planet

First, make sure you are in cursor mode (press Esc if you are in flight mode). Then:

  • Single-click on any planet label to open its information panel

The information panel appears as an overlay and includes:

  • The planet's name
  • Key facts and statistics
  • A description of the world

Warping to a planet

  • Double-click on any planet label to warp your camera directly to that world

The camera smoothly transitions to a close orbit around the selected planet. This is the fastest way to travel between distant worlds — much faster than flying manually.

After warping, click on the scene to re-enter flight mode and explore the planet up close.

What you can explore

Free tier

In the free Solar System explorer, you can visit and learn about:

  • Mercury — the smallest planet, scorched by the Sun
  • Venus — Earth's toxic twin with a crushing atmosphere
  • Earth — our home, complete with its Moon
  • Mars — the red planet with its two tiny moons
  • Jupiter — king of the planets with its Great Red Spot
  • Saturn — the jewel of the Solar System with its iconic rings
  • Uranus — the ice giant tilted on its side
  • Neptune — the windiest planet in the Solar System

Each planet orbits the Sun at its correct relative distance and speed.

Tips for exploration

  • Zoom in close. Fly right up to a planet's surface to appreciate the texture detail, especially at 8K resolution.
  • Watch the moons. Many planets have moons that orbit in real time. Fly to Jupiter or Saturn and watch their moons trace paths around the giant planet.
  • Check the HUD. The heads-up display in the top-left corner shows your current simulation time and speed, helping you orient yourself.
  • Toggle orbits. Open the settings panel and toggle orbit paths on or off to see the invisible highways that planets follow around the Sun.
