Planets & Moons

All the planets and moons you can explore in We Are Small — from Mercury to Neptune, with their major moons orbiting in real time.

We Are Small includes all eight planets of our Solar System along with their most significant moons. Each body is rendered with real NASA-derived textures and orbits according to actual astronomical data.

The inner planets

Mercury

The smallest planet and closest to the Sun. Mercury's surface is heavily cratered, resembling our Moon. It has no atmosphere and no moons.

Venus

Often called Earth's twin because of its similar size, Venus is anything but hospitable. Its thick atmosphere traps heat, making it the hottest planet. No moons.

Earth

Our home world, rendered with high-resolution surface textures. Earth is accompanied by the Moon, which orbits faithfully in the simulation. At night, you can see city lights glowing on the dark side.

Mars

The red planet, with its distinctive rust-coloured surface. Mars has two tiny moons — Phobos and Deimos — which orbit remarkably close to the planet.

The outer planets

Jupiter

The largest planet in the Solar System. Jupiter's swirling cloud bands and Great Red Spot are visible on its surface. In the simulation, you can see its four largest moons — Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto — orbiting the giant planet.

Saturn

Famous for its spectacular ring system, Saturn is a gas giant with a beautiful golden hue. Its largest moon, Titan, is bigger than the planet Mercury.

Uranus

The ice giant tilted on its side, giving it a unique rolling orbit. Uranus has a subtle ring system and several moons.

Neptune

The most distant planet, Neptune is a deep blue ice giant with the strongest winds in the Solar System. Its largest moon, Triton, orbits in the opposite direction to Neptune's rotation.

Moons in real time

Moons in We Are Small orbit their parent planets in real time. Speed up the simulation to watch:

  • The Moon circling Earth once every 27 days
  • Io racing around Jupiter in just 1.8 days
  • Titan making its stately 16-day orbit of Saturn

Fly close to any planet and increase the time speed to see its moons in action.

Beyond the planets

The free tier covers the eight planets and their major moons. For those who want to explore further — dwarf planets, comets, asteroid belts, and historic spacecraft — the premium experience unlocks an entire extended Solar System.
